#Kwibuka29 Honouring the Past, Building the Future: Britam Rwanda's Commemoration Visit to Nyamata Memorial Grounds
At Britam Rwanda, we recognize the importance of remembering the past as we strive to build a brighter future for our community. In an emotionally-charged event this week, members of the Britam Rwanda team visited the Nyamata Memorial grounds to pay respects to the victims of the horrific 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Guided by our Board Chair, Ms. Molly Rwigamba, and our dynamic CEO, Andrew Kulayige, our team embarked on this solemn journey. Upon arriving at the memorial grounds, our delegation was met by a silence that spoke volumes about the tragic events of the past. It was a poignant reminder of the resilience and strength of the Rwandan people.
As a symbolic gesture of respect and remembrance, wreaths were laid at the memorial site. Ms. Molly, in her tribute, stated, "Today we stand here in memory of the lives lost, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and our commitment as Britam Rwanda to foster unity and progress in our society."
Britam Rwanda's commitment to bettering our community extends beyond remembrance. On this day, we also made a contribution towards the home renovations of a survivor residing within the community. This act resonates with our core principle of giving back and our belief in the power of the collective effort to make a difference.
Our visit to the Nyamata Memorial was not just about remembering the past but also about committing to a future of unity, progress, and resilience. At Britam Rwanda, we believe in the importance of working hand-in-hand with our community, supporting those in need, and investing in initiatives that promote growth and resilience.
As we left the Memorial grounds, we carried with us not just the haunting echoes of the past, but also a renewed commitment to contributing to the healing and prosperity of Rwanda. It was a clear reminder that we, as a corporate entity, have a role to play in our country's ongoing journey of reconciliation and nation-building.
Britam Rwanda will continue to honor the memory of the past while relentlessly working towards creating a better future for all Rwandans. It is our solemn promise. Together, we rise.
